ARGENTINA head coach Alfio Basile is delighted that Barcelona star Lionel Messi has joined the country's squad for the upcoming Olympics in Beijing.
"I always believed that he would be in the Olympics," said Basile to Buenos Aires radio station Mitre.
"Yes, I am very happy with his presence but I don't want to talk a lot about the Olympic squad because that is the job work of Sergio Batista.
"'Checho' Batista and I work together and speak a lot but he makes all the decisions with regards to the under-23 team."
Basile confirmed that he would call up Manchester United's Carlos Tevez for the international friendly against Belarus on August 20.
"I will call-up a strong team including Tevez. I will use the best players and I may also call up some new players. Everybody deserves a chance."
