"Everyone in Newcastle has been incredible to us," Beckham told FoxSports after the game.

"We thank them for that as well because when you come to different countries and cities to be welcomed how we've been welcomed really is unbelievable."

Beckham added: "It was a great game tonight. We've enjoyed our stay here and we've enjoyed our game tonight.

"It's the fans that deserve the applause because they turned out tonight to see a game, so congratulations to them."

Beckham's Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan said he felt the contest was a good spectacle and hoped the fans enjoyed it.

"It was a good start for us," Donovan said. "We had a chance to go two up, a little unlucky hitting the crossbar, but give them a lot of credit, a great crowd tonight and a great game, I think everyone enjoyed it."

Donovan, who also played against Sydney FC when the Galaxy toured three years ago, was willing to offer praise to the standard of play offered by the A-League clubs.

"Very good," Donovan said. "I was very impressed with a few different players tonight and I know Newcastle has a lot of guys that are out injured, so very impressed."

Newcastle Jets matchwinner Labinot Haliti said scoring the decisive goal was an unbelievable feeling.

"It's a dream come to true to be a part of it first, and then to get a goal," he said.

"Obviously they are a class team and they showed that in the first-half and throughout the game.

"But we're not too far behind so I thought we put in a good performance tonight. I hope we sent home the people happy."
