Olympic hosts Britain were outclassed in a 2-0 loss to Brazil at the Riverside Stadium on Friday, conceding goals to Sandro and Neymar.

Stuart Pearce's team now have five days to continue their preparations before their tournament opener against Senegal at Old Trafford on Thursday.

"Yeah it's been good," Liverpool forward Bellamy said of the squad's early practice sessions.

"We've only been together 13 days.

"This was our first real competitive game, they don't come much easier than Brazil," he joked.

"Yeah it was a good chance to see where we are at the moment and to see Brazil and where they are.

"We know they've been together for a while, they've built this team for a year and a half now.

"So we knew it was going to be a difficult test for us, but we kept trying to do the right things and we've got six days now towards the first game, so the next six days will be important for us.

Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge, who enjoyed 45 minutes on the pitch after recovering from viral meningitis, said Pearce offered his charges plenty of encouragement despite their defeat.

"The manager was very positive, he just said we are playing against top opposition who are fitter than us, because we are not quite fit yet as we've only just started pre-season as a squad," Sturridge said.

"I think we played some good football and we are looking forward to the competition now and we are confident about what we've got.

"It's been difficult of course, because for two weeks I wasn't doing anything. To get 45 minutes under my belt tonight was crucial and I am pleased."
