EXCLUSIVE: Brisbane Roar goal hero Besart Berisha rued a lack of international club experience that he says cost the A-League champions in their 4-2 ACL loss to FC Tokyo.
Berisha got Roar off to a flyer after just four minutes finishing off a rebound from his own header, but the visitors’ joy was short-lived with FC Tokyo striking back within 60 seconds.
FC Tokyo went into the break with the momentum at 3-2 and went on to finish off Roar’s group hopes with a 4-2 win.
Defensive lapses cost the visitors at vital times, said Berisha.
“You can see FC Tokyo maybe a little more experienced and don’t make some mistakes that we make,” the Albanian international told au.fourfourtwo.com.
“It was not a big difference between the two teams the way we played but in the end it’s cost us the group and inexperience cost us.
“Every game you can learn. Like today we can learn a lot because we made some mistakes that we should not even make – especially in the Champions League as we were straight away punished.
“We learn a lot today and we will learn and try make it better in the last game [at home to Beijing Guoan].”
Berisha insisted Brisbane played fewer long balls than the home side and added: “We are similar teams thought but they are more experienced.”
Meanwhile Roar defender Mohammed Saed Adnan cut a disconsolate figure after the game. The Bahraini international was adamant his challenge on the stroke of half-time was a tough call by Qatari referee Abdullah Baloushi.
“I thought it was outside the box,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com. “They get one penalty they score and the game is changed.
“The first half we played well and deserved to win it. But in the second half I don’t know what happened. We made some mistakes.
“Myself I too make some mistakes like a wrong pass. Anyway the game is finished and we have to think for last game and get three points.”
The defender added: “We are champion of Australia but we have to work hard to be champion of ACL but we will try to improve next year.”
