Rojas’s management reaffirmed the player’s decision to see out the season with Victory before deciding his future.

Talks with the 21-year-old have been ongoing for months and a source within the club said they were “not out of the hunt”.

The Kiwi flyer is a free agent at the end of this season and it is understood Victory want his signature on a multi-year contract.

That would give the A-League outfit the option of playing Rojas for another season before picking up a lucrative transfer fee.

Liverpool and Juventus were among those said to be keen on securing the New Zealand international before the close of the European transfer window at the end of the month.

German sides Wolfsburg, Werder Bremen and Nurnberg are also believed to be circling the young star who was first unearthed by Yellow Fever fans when he won their scholarship to trial with Wellington Phoenix.

But au.fourfourtwo.com was told no decisions would be made until the current season is “done and dusted”.

“He loves being at Melbourne Victory and (his family) love living in Melbourne and he’s certainly not ruled out staying for another season,” said a club insider.

“I think they just want to see how the last nine weeks plus finals played out and he’ll sit down with his family and management and work out where they’re at.

“But we’ve made it pretty clear to them that we want him to stay at Victory. The most important thing is what’s best for Marco.

“If it’s best for him to go overseas and try his hand over there then that’s what they’ll do.”

Rojas is enjoying a breakthrough season under the tutelage of coach Ange Postecoglou.

He has netted 12 goals so far – one less than leading scorer Daniel McBreen - and is sitting joint top of the leaderboard for assists.

UK news reports suggested the player could be snapped up for around $750,000, about the same as former Central Coast Mariner Tom Rogic, who signed with Celtic this month.

But his value to Victory will skyrocket if they can tie him down to a new deal.

Rodi Rojas, the player’s father and agent, declined to speculate on the transfer hype surrounding his son but said he was relishing his time with Victory.

“There are a lot of rumours going on about (Marco) and we’ve just got to keep his head in the right place,” he said.

“He’s with Melbourne Victory at the moment and that’s the most important thing for him.”

Rojas was in scintillating form in Saturday’s Big Blue at AAMI Park, helping his side to a comfortable 3-1 triumph over fierce rivals Sydney FC.

Liverpool and Juventus scouts were said to be attending the game to run the rule over the free-scoring attacker but au.fourfourtwo.com was told neither club had been in contact with Victory.
