Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has handed in-form Genoa forward Marco Borriello his first call-up to the senior team for Wednesday's friendly against Portugal in Zurich.
Borriello, a former member of Italy's Under-21 side, has been impressive for Genoa this season, helping his side remain in the top 10 in Serie A.
The 25-year-old is Serie A's leading scorer with 12 goals in 18 league appearances and netted in Sunday's 2-1 victory against Catania.
Donadoni has left Juventus veteran Alessandro Del Piero and Sampdoria frontman Antonio Cassano out of his 20-man squad.
Italy will be without their number one goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, both unavailable through injury.
However, the Azzurri welcome back experienced defender Marco Materazzi, who has not played for the national team since September due to injury.
Squad: Amelia (Livorno), De Sanctis (Sevilla); Barzagli (Palermo), Cannavaro (Real Madrid), Cassetti (Roma), Grosso (Lyon), Materazzi (Internazionale), Oddo (AC Milan), Zambrotta (Barcelona); Ambrosini (AC Milan), Aquilani (Roma), De Rossi (Roma), Perrotta (Roma), Pirlo (AC Milan), Semioli (Fiorentina); Borriello (Genoa), Di Natale (Udinese), Palladino (Juventus), Quagliarella (Udinese), Toni (Bayern Munich).
