Bouzanis was hit with the minimum sanction for the offence, after he was alleged to have called Albanian striker Berisha a "gypsy".

The City goalkeeper attended the hearing at Football Federation Australia’s offices in Sydney where an independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee handed down the penalty.

The Match Review Panel issued a Disciplinary Notice to Bouzanis and referred the incident to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing as to whether the Offence has been committed, and if so, what sanction should be imposed.

Reacting to the sanction, Bouzanis said; “I have accepted the sanction handed down this evening.

"I have apologised to Besart Berisha and Melbourne Victory directly and I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my apology to the fans and the broader Australian football community.

"My future actions on and off the pitch will demonstrate I have learnt from this experience.”

FFA CEO David Gallop acknowledged the way Melbourne City FC and Dean Bouzanis have handled the situation since the match concluded.

“There is no doubt this is a serious offence and FFA reinforces its stance on the use of racial or other discriminatory remarks,” Gallop said.

“Football’s strength is its ability to unite people from all backgrounds and walks of life and we will not tolerate racial vilification in our sport.

“In saying that, FFA commends the exemplary response of Melbourne City and Dean Bouzanis in immediately seeking to deal with the issue, recognising that the behaviour was unacceptable, showing genuine remorse, taking proactive steps to apologise in person to the opposition player involved and working with the PFA to learn from the incident and help educate the player.”

Bouzanis won't be available again until City's Friday 24 March clash away to Western Sydney Wanderers.

The shot-stopper will miss matches against Brisbane Roar, Wellington Phoenix, Sydney FC, Central Coast and Newcastle Jets.
