Brebner was stretchered from the field late in the first half of the Victory's comprehensive 4-0 win over Gold Coast United at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night with what appeared to be a serious injury that threatened to end his Hyundai A-League season early.

But X-rays on the Scotsman's right ankle on Sunday have revealed only ligament damage.

Brebner will undergo MRI scans this week to determine the severity of his injury.

Matthew Kemp (groin) and Evan Berger (hamstring) will also be assessed during the week, but remain in doubt for Melbourne's match against Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium on Friday.

Kemp and Berger were both substituted in the second half after Archie Thompson netted his second and the Victory's fourth goal of the night.

Melbourne's win saw them consolidate top spot on the table.
