BRISBANE Roar are desperate to land back in the winners' circle on Saturday night but to do so they'll need to overcome a serious test of depth as well as competition-leaders Adelaide United.
The Olyroos have claimed four of Brisbane's youth brigade, Mitch Nichols, Luke DeVere, Luke Brattan and Andrew Redmayne. Also missing are injured pair Ivan Franjic, and Henrique, who badly broke his arm in Brisbane's 3-0 loss to Melbourne Victory last weekend.
Backup keeper Redmayne was unlikely to have seen game time, but Brattan would have been a chance for minutes, and both Nichols and DeVere have made sizeable contributions to Brisbane's early success.
The loss of DeVere means a small reshuffle at the back, which paves the way for Matt Mundy to make his first A-League appearance of the season.
While Brisbane on paper look equipped to cover their missing troops, sticking with United will put pressure on attacking-trio Reinaldo, Massimo Murdocca and Jean Carlos Solorzano, who all go in lacking match time
As the Roar scrape the dish to make up an entire playing squad, coach Ange Postecoglou is taking it all in his stride and says he would attack the clash as an opportunity to record a third-straight win at home.
"It's a little bit (backs to the wall)," said Postecoglou.
"Seems like I should start making excuses like every other club."
"We've only got 15. Fingers crossed that everyone got through today."
"But that's alright, we'll accept that challenge, and there's some boys coming in who are looking forward to the opportunity and I'm sure they'll give a good account of themselves."
"We've had a really good work ethic amongst the squad from day one of pre season, and now the opportunity comes for some players."
"Those kind of things you can treat two ways: You can have it as an excuse, or use it as a challenge like we're doing."
After going undefeated and not conceding a goal in their opening four matches, the Roar's early momentum hit a big hurdle last weekend in the form of a second-half Melbourne Victory goal-avalanche, yet Postecoglou is far from panicking.
The Roar coach has promised an attacking brand of football from his side this season and the game plan remains unchanged despite a loss that midfielder Erik Paartarlu described as a 'reality check'.
"I don't think the performance was too bad last week. We made some errors that we paid the price for, but we want to get back into the winners circle now," Postecoglou said.
"Overall, the performance was still good. "
"They're certainly a good team and a challenge for us, but I don't think there's that much separating first to last (on the ladder)."
"We'll go at them tomorrow and hopefully put some pressure on them from the first whistle."
