As the club prepares for the biggest game in its short history against Adelaide United on Sunday, the 25-year-old takes pride in the fact that so many local boys have played their part in helping the Roar’s charge this season.

McKay is proud to be a Brisbane lad and a glance at the squad list shows that Robbie Kruse, Michael Zullo, Chris Grossman and Tahj Minniecon have all been raised in the city dubbed Bris Vegas. Goalkeeper Griffin McMaster was born on the Gold Coast but played for Brisbane City before joining Roar.

All have had a part to play in the side this year with Frank Farina stressing how important he feels it is to have quality Queenslanders coming through the system.

McKay is right behind that policy and hopes that it sends out a message to the stars of tomorrow that there is a path to success for them at the Roar.

The squad is not clogged with imports and if you’re good enough then you have a coach who is confident enough to give you a shot.

McKay believes it is a very healthy situation for the club and is looking forward to seeing the production line produce further local successes in the years to come.

He said: “People like Robbie (Kruse) and Michael (Zullo) have done well and yes, it’s great that Brisbane players are playing a big part in the team.

“If a club is going to be successful then you need good youngsters coming through the system.

"Hopefully they can see the likes of Michael, Robbie and myself getting their chance and that if they work hard enough there is the opportunity to play in the Hyundai A-League.”
