Ajax midfielder Edgar Davids is facing at least three months on the sidelines after breaking his leg in a pre-season friendly.
The 34-year-old former Holland international was left with a broken shin bone after colliding with an opponent in the match against Dutch second division side Go Ahead Eagles in Deventer.
A statement on Ajax's official website, www.ajax.nl, confirmed Davids will be out of action until October at the earliest.
"Edgar Davids has broken the shin bone in his left leg in the abandoned friendly match against Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday," it read.
"The midfielder is expected to be sidelined for at least three months."
The match was abandoned by referee Dick Jol shortly after the former Barcelona midfielder was carried off the field because of fighting in the stands.
Davids returned to Ajax, the club he began his career with, in January this year after a spell with Premier League side Tottenham.
