To see the finals launch in Sydney...

Vitezslav Lavicka's men have a long wait before they can look forward to the ACL and Brosque concedes the side that takes on that challenge may look different from the one that secured the Premiership.

The finals series is the immediate priority for Sydney but Brosque is delighted that an Asian spot is already in the bag.

"For the club it's very important," he told au.fourfourtwo.com. "A lot of players possibly won't be here when the ACL comes around, which I guess is another story because you'd expect that the team that does well goes straight into the ACL but it's not to be."

Brosque hopes a way can be found to allow clubs more immediate passage - and allowplayers who have earned the right to play in Asia compete in the tournament while they're still with Sydney FC.

"It's a strange decision. It's very rare, especially in a competition with a salary cap, that a team that wins it one year is going to do it again next year, or even be as good. That's the disappointing thing," he said.

"You can sort of understand their (AFC) reasons for doing what they do because as of this point we only know one Australian team that is definitely in the ACL (Sydney FC) but still you'd like to see teams that are at their best go on and compete in Asia.

"While I still think Adelaide has the ability to go on and be great in the Champions League, at the end of the day they finished in last spot this year and I think you'd rather see a team that's finishing top go straight into it."

Brosque is now focused on Thursday's clash with Melbourne, with memories still very fresh of Sunday's triumph over Ernie Merrick's men.

He added: "Going into the season we looked at that last game and thought it would be great if it came down to the last game between us and Melbourne to win it. You couldn't have scripted it better."
