When Sydney looks back at their 2016/17 season there isn’t much to be disappointed about, especially with the amount of records the Sky Blues broke on their double winning journey.

However, Premierships and Grand Final victories in the same season are nothing new, but in Australian football going unbeaten during the regular home and away season is.

With Western Sydney taking that once in a life-time opportunity away from them in the third derby of 2016/17, Brosque is looking to right last season’s only wrong.

“You don’t want to lose any game, and if you had to pick one to lose that’s the one you don’t want to,” Brosque said speaking exclusively to FourFourTwo.

“It left a sour taste in my mouth that game. It’s something I want to make right this season.

“They’re very important for our season and they say a lot about our character and the team.

“The fact that we had such a good run against the Wanderers over the last few years shows how much it meant to us and that won’t change this year.”

In the lead up to last season’s first Sydney derby which produced a record 61,880 crowd at ANZ Stadium, Brosque - who’s born and bred in the west - said, "we hate every single one of the Wanderers."

But the Sydney FC captain, whose family on his wife’s side supports the Wanderers, denied it caused a rift and remarked about the friendly aspect of the rivalry

"That’s the one great thing about the Sydney Derby to be honest,” he said

"I don’t know anywhere else in the world that you can have that good-natured feeling when it comes to such a big game and it is a big game.

"It’s literally divided the city and the good thing is that there are still so many Sydney FC supporters that live out west and there are Western Sydney Wanderers supporters that live in the east as well.

"There are a lot of families that support both clubs and it just makes for interesting conversations and a lot of good banter."

Leading up to the derby, Sydney's Polish import Adrian Mierzejewski was under an injury cloud, but the 30-year-old is in the matchday squad and was buzzing but not deterred about Saturday’s massive contest.

"I know about the how big the game is," he said exclusively to FourFourTwo.

"I have a Polish friend who’s lived here for 10 years and he showed me a few clips on YouTube and I’ve talked to a few of the Sydney players about it as well.

"I’ve also played in big derbies in Poland and in Saudi Arabia, so, for me it’s nothing new.

"I know every game is different but I also I know derbies are the biggest games of the season for the fans and it will show which team is the strongest in the city."
