Melbourne Victory veteran Leigh Broxham says the club is not panicking despite sitting seventh on the table heading into Christmas.
Victory have lost four games this season and will meet sixth-placed Brisbane Roar away on Sunday.
Youngsters Christian Theoharous and Josh Hope have had their opportunities with the seniors this season, while Cameron McGilp and Pierce Waring are still yet to play.
Broxham, who started with Victory as a kit man, admits he has witnessed some trying times at the club, however he felt throwing inexperienced players on the field was not the answer.
“No, not really (the answer), that’s the easy option to do that,” Broxham told FourFourTwo.
“In some cases they do deserve opportunities and they will get them at some point. Some of them have had opportunities and at the same time some of them aren’t ready for an opportunity at the moment.
“So it’s an easy thing to say, but that’s my point of view. From a coaches point of view, he’s got far more experience in coaching than me.
“At a club like Victory, when new players come they experience the new expectations of what the club brings which is that we’re expected to win every week.
“It’s fair enough because we’re a big club and we deserve to carry that tag.
“There has been some tough times here, but it’s nothing we can’t approach and deal with.”
Broxham also said his own game needs improving.
The vice-captain has played nine games this season and believes his performances have reflected how the team is travelling.
“Some of my own performances could’ve been better and I’m not going to shy away from that,” he said.
“You can only assess yourself first and foremost and go from there. I want to do better for the team and hopefully we can turn it around for myself at a personal level.
“I can’t speak for the other players to be honest, I think it’s up to each individual and some people aren’t performing, but it’s not to say you’re that far off getting there. It’s personal observation and it’s not all doom and gloom.
“We’re a bit up and down and so are Brisbane, it’s an important game for us on Sunday. We need to go up there and get a result. As the season is progressing, we need to get the runs on the board.”
