With Owen Coyle on the verge of leaving Burnley for Bolton Press Association Sport takes a look at some of the likely contenders to replace him at Turf Moor.
DARREN FERGUSON
One of the most highly-rated young managers in the game, Ferguson took Peterborough from Coca-Cola League Two to the Championship in two seasons before leaving the club in November. Has never managed in the Premier League, though.
MIKE PHELAN
The Manchester United number two spent the first six years of his footballing career at Burnley and after one and a half years under Sir Alex Ferguson could see it as the ideal place for his first spell in charge.
ALAN CURBISHLEY
He worked wonders in a 15-year spell in charge of Charlton, who have gone from the Premier League to League One since he left in 2006. Has been out of the game since leaving West Ham in September 2008 but now could be the time for a return.
STEVE DAVIS
The current first-team coach is likely to be promoted once again to caretaker manager - a role he took on for one game in November 2007, steering Burnley to victory over Leicester. It remains to be seen whether the club take a gamble on giving the position on a permanent basis to Davis - who had three stints with the Clarets as a player.
GARETH SOUTHGATE
Sacked as manager of Middlesbrough following three years in charge in October, despite them lying just one point off top spot in the Championship. Was unable to save Boro from relegation last term, though, as they finished second bottom.
