Cahill is keen to settle his club future and keep himself in the frame for Russia 2018 and a potential fourth World Cup appearance.

South London Press & Mercury said Australia’s all-time leading goal scorer will jet into the UK this weekend to finalise a deal with his former club.

Cahill split with Melbourne City in December and speculation has mounted about a return to Millwall where he played between 1997-2004 and remains a fan favourite.

Manager Neil Harris, a former Lions teammate, hasn’t ruled out signing the 38-year-old but has kept a lid on expectations.

After touching base with the Aussie two weeks ago, Harris told News At Den he was keeping the lines of communication open.

“I spoke to Timmy again, about various things, to be honest. There’s still a dialogue between me and Tim in terms of that but that’s as far as it is at the moment.”
