Foxtel has joined forces with Socceroos superstar Tim Cahill to launch the Foxtel All-Stars Academy, providing 10 two-day holiday camps across Australia.

All would-be recruits are asked to do is jump on the website (www.foxtelallstars.com.au) and tell the Green and Gold legend, in 25 words or less, about their football dreams.

Applications have already opened for the Sydney camp (June 22-23) and will close on June 10 with the winners announced four days later.

Australia’s World Cup hero said he was delighted the Tim Cahill Coaching Clinic and Foxtel were working together to encourage young footballers to put their best boot forward.

“My passion is to increase the footprint of football in Australia and I’m excited that Foxtel share the same enthusiasm I have for growing the game,” he said.

“To me it’s a perfect partnership that will deliver what is needed to provide children of Australia a fun and active way of enjoying football and helping them to follow their dreams.”

And with the national team just weeks away from sealing their World Cup fate there’s no better time for future generations of budding stars to start thinking big.

The Academy is open to players aged 6 to 11 and offers youngsters an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of football preparation and training.

The 50 participants at each camp will be selected by current stars and hand-picked coaches and each will be able to bring a friend with them who is new to the game.

Other camps will be held at Newcastle (October 1-2), Townsville (October 5-6), Melbourne (December 7-8), Adelaide (December 14-15) and Brisbane (December 18-19). Locations and dates for a further four camps will be announced shortly.

The Academy is just one facet of Foxtel’s national development and grassroots football program designed to encourage more kids to play the world game and lead active and healthy lifestyles.

Over the next four years the media giant will invest more than $20 million in supporting Aussie football, including the innovative Foxtel All-Stars Ambition Tour aimed at potential superstars of the game who may not otherwise get an opportunity to develop their skills. The week-long intensive program for 30 girls and boys aged between 10-15 years will kick-off during the A-League season.

Throughout the week players will get access to experts across all facets of the game as well advice on what is takes to crack the big time.

Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop recently hailed the expanded partnership with Foxtel as another “big step forward for football in Australia.

“Football has 1.7 million participants across Australia and the majority are young players who enjoy a game that is skilful, safe and accessible to boys and girls,” Gallop said.

“I’m delighted that Foxtel will be a partner in community football and will give 1000 young players a special opportunity to be part of the Foxtel All Stars Academy with Tim Cahill.”

The partnership includes naming rights for the Foxtel All-Stars, who will play Manchester United in July, and the Foxtel National Youth League.

The company’s CEO Richard Freudenstein said the national grassroots football program took Foxtel’s commitment to the game to the “next level”.
