Inverness today revealed negotiations with Terry Butcher are "ongoing" following reports the former England captain has been offered the manager's job.
Former Sydney FC boss Butcher, 50, is the number one choice to replace Craig Brewster at the Highland club and has already held talks with them.
He is set to travel from London to Inverness to conclude negotiations on what is reportedly a 18-month contract.
Caley Thistle director of football Graeme Bennett told PA Sport: "Terry Butcher's not in Inverness at the moment - he's in London.
"But he's coming back up. Negotiations are ongoing."
Butcher's links to Scotland extend back to 1986 when he left Ipswich to join Rangers and played for the Glasgow club with distinction until the summer of 1990.
He managed Motherwell from 2002 to 2006 before taking over at Sydney FC and after a spell with Brentford he agreed to become part of new Scotland boss George Burley's backroom team last January.
