TURKISH team Genclerbirligi are set to axe Socceroo Nick Carle from the side after the chairman admitted there was no place for him at the club.
Carle moved to the Superlig side from Newcastle Jets earlier this year after picking up last season's A-League's player of the year award.
He made the move to stay match fit in the hope of pinning down a place in the Socceroos squad for the Asian Cup.
But despite initially impressing in the side with some good performances and match-winning goals, he was reportedly unsettled.
He has struggled to hold down a first-team place in recent weeks as his side slipped down the league.
Now Genclerbirligi are set to swing the axe to save their season with a massive overhaul to the squad in a bid to climb back up the league.
Eight players are expected to be released, swapped or sold off - possibly as soon as next week - and Carle is one of the first heads set to roll.
"Carle could not adapt to the team, and our coach does not want him in the team," said club Chairman Ilhan Cavcav. "We must follow our coach's wishes.
"This team finished fourth in the league last season, how can it be in 16th spot?"
Others facing the axe include captain Erkan Özbey, goalkeeper Gökhan Tokgöz, defender Tolga Dogantez, midfielders Sedat Yesilkaya, Eren Aydin, Nikola Petkovic and Marco Zoric.
Cavcav added: "These players will be used in player-swap deals for new signings or released."
