MELBOURNE Victory star Carlos Hernandez has been rested from the Costa Rica national team to spare him the journey home for a meaningless World Cup qualifier.

Coach Rodrigo Kenton opted to name a weakened squad for his country's World Cup qualifier against El Salvador with his team already through to the next round.
Neither side can be displaced from the two qualification places in Group Three of the CONCACAF zone and as a result, Kenton has looked to his locally-based players to fill his 20-man squad for the November 19 match in San Salvador.
In-form Brujas midfielder Pablo Brenes will join up with the team and is joined by Cartagines' Leonardo Madrigal.
There are also recalls for Saprissa striker Alejandro Alpizar, who missed the previous qualifiers against Suriname and Haiti, as well as Oscar Rojas, who scored one goal for Jaguares in the Mexican league last weekend.
A number of first-choice regulars have been rested, most notably Wisla Krakow's Junior Diaz and Gent forward Bryan Ruiz while Carlos Hernandez (Melbourne Victory), Wardy Alfaro (Alajuelense), Leonardo Gonzalez (Herediano), Alonso Solis (Saprissa) and Pablo Chinchilla (Liberia) are also not required to make the trip.
Costa Rica squad: Keylor Navas (Saprissa), Ricardo Gonzalez (Herediano); Cristian Montero (Alajuelense), Freddy Fernandez (Perez Zeledon), Gonzalo Segares (Chicago Fire), Michael Umana, Harold Wallace (both Liberia), Roy Myrie (Gent); Jose Luis Lopez (Melbourne Victory), Celso Borges, Walter Centeno, Armando Alonso (all Saprissa), William Sunsing (Liberia), Pablo Brenes (Brujas), Oscar Rojas (Jaguares); Froylan Ledezma (Trenkwalder Admira), Alvaro Saborio (Sion), Victor Nunez (Liberia), Leonardo Madrigal (Cartagines), Alejandro Alpizar (Saprissa).
