The A-League's biggest feud continues when A-League leaders Sydney FC take on finals aspirants Western Sydney Wanders at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

The bitter city rivals have played each other twice already this season with a draw in the opening match followed by an emphatic victory to Sydney in their previous fixture.

And ahead of the third and final regular season derby, Carney told FourFourTwo the Wanderers were still reeling from their round 10 thrashing.

“I’m sure they will be intimidated when we turn up on Sunday night,” he said.

“Especially as we beat them 5-0 the last time we played them.

“We feel like we do have the edge on them and we are in good form at the moment.

“A few us have also been rested from the Asian Champions League game so we will be fresh and speaking to all the boys today no one is really tired.

“So everyone is up for the derby, if you are not up for the derby then you shouldn't be playing. Everyone will be fit and ready by Sunday.”

The planned demolition of Allianz stadium for a proposed new venue means the Sky Blues will play the final ever derby match at the iconic ground.

Taking time to reflect on his time playing at the SFS, Carney said there were two standout events.

“The one that stands out the most would be the first grand final in season one,” he said.

“Winning the first ever grand final of the A-League was amazing in front of an amazing crowd, that was fantastic.

“And the other moment was the grand final that we won last season on penalty shootout, which was amazing as well.”

Carney added, “The atmosphere at Allianz stadium is fantastic. When it’s full you can get a better atmosphere than any other stadium. You can get bigger crowds but there is nothing like it when its full.

“There have also been quite a few good memories between us and the Wanderers, so we have to make sure we finish on a high and finish off this derby with a good memory.”

When Sydney travelled to play in China for their midweek ACL game Carney was left behind so the veteran attacker is hopeful of playing a bigger role than his regular substitute appearance.

“I feel like I should be playing on Sunday but what position I’ll be playing I’m not sure,” he said.

“I also feel like I can always add goals to the team. With the team I have around me I have been getting good service in the area and we dominate a lot of teams.

“But it’s the performances for the lads that is most important for us and how we win and doing whatever it takes to win.

“So, if we have the same performance as we had against the Wanderers last time I’d be happy with that.”
