Australia downed the Chinese 3-0 at AAMI Park on Wednesday night as Sam Kerr netted a brace in front of over 10,000 fans.

However star left-back Catley fell awkwardly when she crossed the ball late in the first-half, needing to leave play for treatment.

The Melbourne City captain returned to the field minutes later and received a rapturous applause from the fans, but was taken off for Chloe Logarzo at half-time.

Stajcic said she was carrying a knock she picked up in last weekend’s 3-2 loss to Sydney FC and may be rested for the game in Geelong.

“Steph had a slight little calf niggle from a kick she got on Saturday,” Stajcic said.

“She was 50-50 before the game. She managed to get trodden on in the exact same spot which is usually the case.

“She’ll be fine, it’s just a minor injury, but we took precautions.

“It’s highly likely (we’ll make a lot of rotations) we had six changes during the game. When you think of some of the ones that didn’t get on the field like Elise Kellond-Knight who is one of the best in the world and Lydia Williams was also on the bench.”

Stajcic said he was happy with their dominance over the Chinese but indicated they could do a lot better.

He also said an issue he highlighted was slow starts to games and closing out matches.

“Certainly we dominated the game from the outset with the ball,” he said.

“In the last 15 minutes, it might’ve been a little bit of complacency or fatigue or a combination of factors. We still gave them one chance at the end which is probably their best chance of the game.

“I thought in the first half we lacked a bit of cutting edge and I don’t think we were clinical in the front third. I don’t think we created enough good chances with the amount of possession and passing we actually had.

“I think the second half Katrina Gorry had a chance and she should’ve scored and it would’ve increased the momentum and intensity of the game.

“Certainly I thought we created a few more cutting edge chances in the second half which is what we wanted to see.”
