It was blowing a gale on the Central Coast and the Mariners were hoping their finals chances wouldn’t be gone with the wind.
Antony Golec – 8 - Dealt with the conditions expertly in a really strong showing. Would be disappointed to concede two goals but definitely one of the Mariners' best.
Storm Roux – 6.5 - Had the pleasure of linking up with Lachlan Wales and made a few forays forward.
Tom Hiariej – 7 - Took a while to settle but won the midfield battle early. Picked up a bit of an injury and struggled through until the 65th minute when Liam Rose came on to replace him.
Blake Powell – 6.5 - On the receiving end of a bone-breaking challenge from Harrison Delbridge but he recovered well. Playing in a deeper role, he ran out of legs late on but a positive showing.
Jacob Melling – 7 - First start for his new club and didn’t disappoint as he filled the hole in midfield well alongside Tom Hiariej. Some signature hard-nosed challenges before he faded late.
Kwabena Appiah – 6.5 - A different game from him as he seemed to hold up the ball and look for runners more than take on the defence. Subbed in the 65th minute
Lachlan Wales – 8 - Bit of quality from a set-piece to assist the opener for Alan Baro. Had a great battle with Nathaniel Atkinson throughout. Got his third assist in three games after a wicked corner was sent in for Jake McGing to head home. Young talent on the rise.
Asdrubal – 4 - He chased the ball all afternoon, mostly as it was passed between defenders and goalkeeper. Had a one on one with the keeper to kill the game off but fluffed his lines again. May be the slowest player in the A-League.
Liam Rose – 5.5 - Had to replace Hiariej and unfortunately couldn’t match his quality on this occasion as Melbourne City took control of the midfield.
Josh Bingham – 6.5 - Sat on the right and copped Paul Okon’s commentary and encouragement throughout his time on the pitch. Couldn’t spark anything but put in a good shift.
Kye Rowles – 6 - Gave Lachlan Wales an early rest on 75 minutes to sit deep on the left and had to deal with a City side that was pressing further and further forward.
