KEVIN Phillips was the hero for Birmingham for the second weekend in a row as the Blues made it two wins out of two in theChampionship.

The veteran striker, recruited from West Brom in the summer, scored a last-gasp winner against Sheffield United last Saturday as a substitute and he repeated the trick again two minutes after coming on in a 2-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary's.

Chris Perry put the home side ahead two minutes before the break but Garry O'Connor levelled (49) and Phillips grabbed the winner 13 minutes from time.

Coventry and Preston are also on maximum points with Chris Coleman's side winning 2-1 at Barnsley and North End beating Crystal Palace 2-0.
