According to reports in the AD Sportwereld newspaper, the 27-year-old Greece international could now be surplus to requirements at the De Kuip stadium following the arrival of the Dutchman from Bayern Munich.

But Charisteas, who moved to Rotterdam from rivals Ajax, admits that he has not heard anything about his future and will be reporting as usual for pre-season training at the weekend.

"I haven't heard anything from Feyenoord, to be exact," he said. "When Feyenoord wants to dump me, the club needs to say that to me.

"But at this point I know nothing more than that and I have to call in to the first training session on Saturday."

The former Werder Bremen and Aris Thessaloniki forward was also pleased that the club had brought in another top striker, adding that the pair could together play an important role.

"I find it excellent that the club signed Makaay. They signed him for the starting line up, but I can be of importance to Feyenoord too.

"And a top club always needs to have two good central strikers," added Charisteas.
