INTER Milan defender Cristian Chivu has been discharged from a Verona hospital and taken back to Milan after surgery on his fractured skull.
The Romania international was injured in a clash with Sergio Pellissier during Inter's 1-0 win over Chievo on Wednesday night, and had remained at the Hospital Civile Maggiore Borgo Trento since then.
"Cristian is okay and proceeding well after the operation," said Inter doctor Franco Combi.
"Cristian will spend a few more days in (a Milan hospital) to continue the tests, and he will then continue to rest."
Chivu issued his own statement to thank fans and well-wishers for their messages of support.
"It was truly nice to receive messages from friends and colleagues, managers and coaches from clubs both Italian and foreign," he said.
"And from the fans, not only in Italy, but in Romania and Holland," the former Ajax defender added.
"I felt close affection from everyone and this certainly made me feel good."
