The penalty, converted in the 73rd minute by the Roar's Sergio van Dijk, came after comeback keeper Mark Bosnich upended Massimo Murdocca in the box.

Van Dijk's first goal of the season reduced the deficit to two goals and Farina queried why the Mariners were not made to play the rest of the game a man down.

"He (referee Peter O'Leary) has given the penalty but why did Bosnich stay on the park?," Farina asked the media post-match.

"Or why wasn't he booked? Those are the big questions."

McKinna, on the other hand, pondered whether Bosnich's challenge was worthy of a spot kick at all.

"The big screen didn't show it. But I thought he got the ball first and he thought that as well," McKinna said.

While Farina was happy to question Bosnich's continued participation in the match, McKinna was more circumspect when assessing a Danny Tiatto tackle that earned the controversial Roar defender a yellow card in the 28th minute.

Tiatto noticeably won the ball on the sideline directly in front of the Central Coast bench.

But he also took Matt Simon with him in his challenge and the sore Mariners goal-scorer was eventually substituted early in the second half.

"(Tiatto) went for the ball in a good hard tackle. He's won everything and got everything," McKinna said.

"Two minutes after that he came through and won a header and I said to 'Fergie' (head coach Ian Ferguson) that I'd love to go and shake his hand."

"He'd just been booked and he came in with that passion to win the ball. That's fantastic and you can't take it away from him."

"I wish we had week-in week-out, 11 players with Danny Tiatto's enthusiasm and will to win the ball."

"But Matty Simon is pretty sore."
