A crowd of 3,470 braved the elements at a rain-soaked Fir Park to watch the Clydesdale Bank Premier League side host a Red Devils reserve team coached by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The match took place to commemorate the 100th anniversary of legendary manager Busby's birth in Lanarkshire and it was the home side who made the most of the encounter.

The game allowed Well boss Jim Gannon to run the rule over several fringe players, with a total of 17 players taking part for the Steelmen.

The first real chance fell to Jim O'Brien, who played a one-two with John Sutton before lashing a 20-yard effort high over the crossbar.

Sutton then nodded just wide of target, before O'Brien called goalkeeper Ben Amos into action with a stinging effort.

The decisive goal arrived eight minutes after the restart when Coke collected from Sutton before coolly flicking the ball over Amos and into the back of the net off the post.

United squandered the opportunity to restore parity when Magnus Eikrem saw his 30-yard drive whistle just over the crossbar, as the home side held on for the win.
