KARLSRUHE's Bundesliga match with Cologne was delayed by around 10 minutes after Cologne centre-half Ozat Umit collapsed on the pitch.
The Cologne captain fell to the turf off the ball and appeared to lose consciousness, prompting a swift response from the pitchside medical staff.
The 31-year-old Turk appeared to be receiving heart massage treatment before leaving the pitch on a stretcher.
Cologne goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon and coach Christoph Daum were clearly shaken by the incident as both appeared overcome with emotion for a period.
There was brief a question mark over whether the match would resume, but a thumbs up from a member of the medical team on the sideline and a stadium announcement assured fans and players that Umit's condition was not as bad as first feared.
