The Premier League Cup matchup between Leeds and Newcastle United's U23 squads was delayed as Leeds goalkeeper Will Huffer struggled with the clashing kit colours of the two sides.

Just as kick-off was to begin Huffer complained to the referee that he was unable to distinguish between Leeds United's traditional white kits and Newcastle's light blue kits due to his colourblindness.

The game was subsequently delayed, however, after discussion with officials it was decided Leeds would be able to wear their green training shirts for the tie. 

The kit-change seemed to help Huffer who only conceded one goal as Leeds despatched of Newcastle with a 3-1 victory.

Leeds U23's are now through to the next stage of the Premier League Cup as they topped their group.

While the delay was unusual, it is not the first time kit plans have needed to change due to a player's colourblindness.

As recent as the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Socceroos were required to wear their dark green away kit against Denmark.

Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney made it known that Australia's yellow kit may have clashed with Denmark's white kit and as such the change was made.
