EXCLUSIVE: Former Bolton Wanderers and South Melbourne legend Con Boutsianis is set to play a crucial role in the Gold Coast Premier League blockbuster this weekend.
Boutsianis, 36, is currently starring for Burleigh Heads and is set to line-up against ladder leaders Gold Coast Knights on Saturday in the match of the round at Pizzey Park, Miami.
Burleigh Heads is in third place, just one point off the Knights who suffered a shock 5-3 loss to Palm Beach last weekend.
The Bulldogs will look to Boutsianis and fellow former NSL star Peter Grierson to provide the spark against a side that not only leads the Premier League but also heads the goalscorers charts with 32 goals after ten rounds - 12 more than Burleigh.
Burleigh president David Bailey told au.fourfourtwo.com the match has all the hallmarks of a classic.
"If results go our way, we could be top of the league. Two sides in form, it should be fantastic," he said.
"Con and Peter are great players who've added so much to our side and we look forward to a great game in front of a good crowd."
Boutsianis was generally regarded as one of the most entertaining modern-day NSL players.
A glorious left foot which scored many a goal from set pieces, the attacking midfielder won NSL championships with South Melbourne where he's a club legend having had three spells at Lakeside.
'Boutsi' also played for Perth Glory between 1998 and 2000 and briefly was on the books of England's Bolton Wanderers later that year.
Boutsianis has scored over 120 goals in senior football in Australia.
He also saw his share of controversy with a winning goal in the 1998 NSL grand final against Carlton thought to have been scored after a push by the South Melbourne man on a defender.
