EXCLUSIVE: Sydney FC skipper Steve Corica believes there is more pressure on North Queensland Fury than the sky blues when they make their competitive debut this weekend.
While Vitezslav Lavicka's arrival at Moore Park and an unbeaten pre-season run has inspired confidence among Sydney FC players, officials and supporters there is also huge interest in seeing how Robbie Fowler and company make their A-League entrance.
A big crowd at Fury HQ will be expecting their team to get off to a flying start and Corica knows that brings challenges for players.
"The pressure is going to be on them probably more so than us," he told au.fourfourtwo.com. "It will be their first game at home, there's Robbie Fowler, a new stadium. I think they'll be feeling the pressure a little bit.
"Away from home you don't feel that pressure as much with the home crowd but the most important thing for us is to win up there."
Sydney's youngsters have excited during pre-season after a large number were promoted from last year's triumphant National Youth League side. Corica believes he and the other senior players in the squad have an important role to play in seeing them develop further this year.
"I try to lead by example as captain and I'm the oldest player in there," said Corica. "We've a few experienced players and we have to lead the young ones.
"For a lot of the youngsters it's their first season in the A-League.The young ones have had a great pre-season and we want to show them the right way."
The new coach has stressed the importance of unity and Corica accepts it is not about individuals this year.
He added: "It is all about the team and if we stay strong as a team we've a very good chance of winning games."
