Corinthians players have paid tribute to those murdered in a Pittsburgh synagogue on 27 October, wearing a kit with the name of each of the 11 Jewish victims.

During the Shabbat morning services at the Tree of Life synagogue, a gunman entered and killed 11 members of the Jewish community.

Corinthians President, Andres Sanchez said, “The massacre in Pittsburgh during the Jewish religious service has hurt our fundamental values.

“That’s why we took the decision to honour the victims of this irrational act of violence and call for all peoples to co-exist in harmony and respect of differences.

“These things cannot be repeated. Each of us must be an example aiming at a better world. Remembering and repulsing acts of prejudice is the best way to fight such outbreaks of barbarity.”

The Corinthians kits will be auctioned, with the money donated to the Sao Paulo Jewish federation going toward the construction of a monument against intolerance.  The rest of the funds will be donated to Brazilian Jewish Charity, Ten Yad.

The Brazilian Serie A fixture against Botafogo in Sao Paulo ended in a 1-0 defeat for SC Corinthians.
