The attacking midfielder Hernandez will depart for his homeland this Sunday for the Wednesday tie in San Jose, before returning in time for Victory'sMajor Semi Final clash against Adelaide United at Telstra Dome on Saturday,  February 14.

Hernandez, who last represented Costa Rica in a pair of friendlies 12 months ago, is one of only two  A-League players, alongside Queensland Roar defender Craig Moore, selected for international duty next week.

Despite a run of injuries and suspension, the Costa Rican played 18 matches this season, scoring two goals in Victory's run to the Premiers Plate and a berth in the AFC Champions League 2010.

"Carlos hasn't missed a Victory match since October last year and has been rewarded for his impressive recent form," Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole said.

"Carlos represented Costa Rica at the 2006 World Cup and is delighted to be back in the squad as his country aims for another berth in 2010.

"At this stage, he'll leave Adelaide for Costa Rica this Sunday and will fly back to Melbourne in time for our return fixture against the Reds on February 14."

Costa Rica will begin its fourth and final stage of CONCACAF qualifying against Honduras, with the top three teams from the group of six progressing directly to next year's tournament in South Africa.
