It turned into battle of the goalkeepers at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium as Croatia reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup with a penalty shootout victory over Denmark.
Following an early goal from Danish defender Mathias Jorgensen and equaliser from Mario Mandzukic, the game headed into extra-time with the scores locked at 1-1.
After impressing in the group stages, this hadn't been a vintage performance from Croatia's so-called 'golden generation', but with four minutes remaining their talisman Luka Modric had the chance to win it from the penalty spot.
His effort was saved by goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, sending the match to a penalty shootout.
However, despite Schmeichel's heroics, which saw him save another two spot kicks, it was his counterpart, Danijel Subasic, who denied three Danish players to send Croatia through to the last eight.

Let Jorgensen's effort squirm under him but redeemed himself in the shootout.

Was a great outlet in the first half but was less affective after the break when Croatia dropped off.

Was put under pressure by Denmark's long throws but overall Croatia coped well.
Domagoj Vida 5.5
