Jamie Young’s wait for redemption is over after the Brisbane Roar goalkeeper erased two years of Finals Series heartbreak in Friday night’s win over Western Sydney.
Young, a starter in his side’s past two post-season defeats, began the Elimination Final on the bench until custodian Michael Theo was injured in extra time
The 31-year-old Brisbane local replicated his teammate’s famous Suncorp Stadium heroics by decisively saving Jumpei Kusukami’s attempt.

“I can’t put it into words - I’ve waited a long time for that,” an emotional Young told Fox Sports.
“I’m just happy to be on the winning team.
“I feel for Michael because he produced some quality saves tonight. He’s done really well and without him we might not have been in this position.
“Sometimes football goes like that. It can be cruel.”
Having come from 1-0 down on Friday night, Young said Roar’s never-say-die attitude will ensure they push Melbourne Victory all the way in next weekend’s Semi Final.
“Our team, these guys don’t give up. I think we’ll go on from this now,” he said.
