Fury first began their interest in the former England international when he was released from English Premier League side Blackburn Rovers months ago.

Fowler, 33, spent a week in Townsville last month where he was shown the club's facilities by coach Ian Ferguson and owner Don Matheson. Before returning home to England where he has been discussing the move with family Fowler told the press he was "very impressed."

Fury owner Don Matheson had hoped Fowler would give the club his final answer yesterday on whether or not he would become their inaugural marquee but will instead find out today.

"They get back to us today and one way or another we're going to have an announcement tomorrow," Fury chairman Don Matheson said.

"We'll probably talk to him more and I'll probably get more of gut feeling (of the chances) on it then.

"We haven't had as much communication as I would have like over the weekend but we have organised to talk to him again.

"They've said one way or the other we'll know by Tuesday."

Should the attempt to sign Fowler fail, Socceroo Scott Chipperfield is widely expected to become Fury's next target, Matheson however is hopeful of signing both.

"We've definitely got the clout to bring both of these guys to the club," Matheson said. "We can afford both.Fergie has been brilliant with the way he has put the team together."
