In a whirlwind chain of events which saw Dalian Aerbin reveal its interest and an offer in the past 48 hours, Mullen flew out for China yesterday with the finalisation of a two year deal subject on him passing a medical.

Mullen has been an important part of United’s squad and more specifically a Reds defence that has conceded just two goals in the club’s current run to the quarter finals of the Asian Champions League.

But the club decided to rubberstamp the move in a decision that Adelaide United Football Director Michael Petrillo said was taken in the best interests of both Mullen and the club.

“Dalian Aerbin came to us with a substantial fee for Daniel and he expressed his desire to head to China,” Petrillo said.

“It was a decision we did not take lightly because Daniel is an integral part of our squad and while it is always sad to lose a player and a character who has been fantastic both on and off the field, it is a wonderful opportunity for him to further his career.

“Providing his medical is successful, we wish him the best of luck and thank him for the contribution he has made during his time here.”

Mullen scored five goals in 79 appearances in all competitions for the Reds since he joined his hometown club in February 2008. His overall tally included two goals in 58 A-League games across four seasons.
