Milos Degenek says the Socceroos' Saturday friendly against Hungary will be a special moment with a family gathering planned for the defender.
Australia will take on Hungary in Budapest this weeked in its last match before the 2018 World Cup starts.
Degenek was born in Croatia and grew up in Belgrade. He migrated down under to Sydney as a six-year-old.
The centre back can't wait for Saturday's occasion.
"It will be special," he said.
"It’s the closest game to my second home (Belgrade) that I will ever play. My best friend lives in Budapest and he will be there. My brother will be there, my Mum, my Dad, both my Grandmas, uncles, aunties, a lot of cousins, relatives will be around.
"There is a mini entourage coming, a mini-bus coming full of my family to watch the game."
Degenek will be hoping to impress coach Bert van Marwijk in the final World Cup warm-up.
With the 24-year-old able to play both in the centre of defence and on the right, his versatility could prove crucial in Russia.
Degenek has enjoyed the Socceroos' training camp in Turkey.
"The preparation here has been brilliant," he said.
"The complex has been brilliant, the work has been very hard but we have all enjoyed it. I think everyone that is part of the team, that is part of the staff, and all the members of our squad that is with us have enjoyed their time here.
"I think it has been really valuable and I think we have made the most of it. I think we have progressed as a team and we have adapted to the way that the coach wants us to play."
