The Reds were beaten by Jon McKain's 22nd minute strike, but the visitors had their chances to level but simply couldn't convert.

"I didn't think we deserved to lose, it was one of those games I thought we had enough chances that we could have scored tonight," Vidmar said.

Headers from Adelaide pair Daniel Mullen and Travis Dodd both forced good saves from Wellington stopper Liam Reddy just before the break.

While late in the contest, Mathew Leckie saw his goalbound strike well saved by Reddy, before youngster Francesco Monterosso headed agonisingly wide from the resulting corner.

Vidmar added: "We dominated the first 20 minutes and then they got their first corner and the ball just bounced to McKain, but as I said I thought we put in a pretty good effort tonight.

"I certainly don't think we should have lost that game."

The Reds, who haven't won in seven A-League matches now, host Brisbane Roar next weekend.
