Striker Djite will fly off to Turkey shortly after United and the Turkish Super League club finalised arrangements of his transfer on a three year deal.

“I’m definitely happy that it is all done and dusted and now I know exactly what’s happening, where I’m heading and I can concentrate 100 per cent,” Djite said.

“I think for myself personally it’s a good move and hopefully it can lead to bigger and better things. You don’t get great reward without great risk so I think it’s a good step and an assured step.”

The Qantas Socceroo and Qantas Under 23 representative headed to Turkey straight after United’s final match of the AFC Champions League Group Stage in China to undergo a medical examination and confirm the deal.

All that is needed to complete the transfer is for United to sign off on some final documentation from the Turkish club and for Football Federation Australia to provide the international transfer release.

“Genclerbirligi is a very big club, they have got a very good reputation of developing young players and selling them off to bigger clubs in bigger leagues, so I want to work hard there and become as successful as I can with the team and hopefully that leads to bigger and better things,” Djite said.

Leaving the club that gave him his start in the Hyundai A-League in 2006/07, Djite said he was grateful to Adelaide United for giving him the opportunity to play and helping him grow and develop as a player.

“I’m going to a great club and I want to do well at Genclerbirligi but Adelaide is a history making team, I have a lot of friends in Adelaide, the supporters have been great and Aurelio Vidmar is an amazing coach,” Djite said.

The Washington-born striker heads to Genclerbirligi as the third Australian player to have signed for the club since 2003, following former Newcastle Jets playmaker Nick Carle and former Socceroo Josip Skoko’s previous stints there.

Genclerbirligi has won the Turkish Cup twice and reached the fourth round of the UEFA Cup back in 2003/04.

Djite was in Adelaide on a brief stopover on his way to Brisbane to join the Qantas Socceroos camp ahead of Sunday’s World Cup qualifying match against Iraq.

Going into camp with a number of Australia’s European stars, Djite said he was looking forward to proving his fitness and giving a good impression to national Coach Pim Verbeek.

Djite is expected to commence training with Genclerbirligi on June 30.
