BRUCE Djite looks to be heading for the Adelaide United exit as the injured striker eyes up an overseas switch.
The 21-year-old is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play any part in the club’s remaining Asian Champions League group games.
He may be sidelined but that hasn’t prevented clubs from showing interest with the Netherlands a potential destination for Djite and a place at FC Twente.
He told the Adelaide Advertiser: “There are clubs interested, I would love to go overseas as soon as possible, that has always been my goal.
“If I have played my last game for United I can say I had a great time here. The club has the best owners in the league and have been very good to me.
“What I have figured out in football through injury, though, is you have to take opportunities when they come.
“Now I am injured there is a big problem. I can’t showcase myself and that is really hurting me at the moment but the clubs understand that.”
Djite doesn’t expect United to stand in his way to making a move, despite being contracted until June 2009.
He said: “I am sure the club wants to be seen to be helping players go overseas, not one that causes problems.”
For the time being though Djite remains an Adelaide United player as does fellow forward Nathan Burns.
United’s stance this week has been that Burns remains an Adelaide man and that the player is not going anywhere right now.
