EXCLUSIVE: Nagoya Grampas assistant coach Bosko Djurovski has denied rumours he’s been approached by Melbourne Victory over the A-League club’s vacant coaching post.
After the sacking of Ernie Merrick following Victory's disastrous opening round loss to Gamba Osaka in the ACL, the position has been the subject of much speculation with the names Roy Keane, Franz Straka and now Djurovski thought to have been thrown into the mix.
Keane is currently rumoured to be in Melbourne but so far there’s nothing to suggest he is being considered for the vscant Victory post.
Likewise Djurovski was said to have been on a plane to Melbourne to speak with Victory yesterday - but speaking from Seoul where he was helping Nagoya prepare for an ACL clash, Djurovski flatly denied that claim.
“I spoke with him today and he’s not been asked about the [Victory] job,” Misha Radovic, coach of Indonesian club Pelita Jaya and former team-mate of Djurovski at Red Star Belgrade, told au.fourfourtwo.com.
“He’s concentrating on the Asian Champions League and J-League and of course trying to get back to normal living after the country’s recent tragedy."
Djurovski is currently number two at the reigning J-League champions where he works under the legendary Dragan Stojkovic, a former playing great with Yugoslavia and one of the most respected managers in the J-League.
Nagoya are in Group F of the ACL up against the likes of FC Seoul after a month out of action due to the tsunami and earthquake that hit Japan last month.
Djurovski is a former assistant coach at Swiss club Servette and Red Star, who he also managed before joining Nagoya in 2008.
Overnight, Victory earned their first points in the ACL with a 1-1 draw away to Tianjin Teda under interim coach Mehmet Durakovic.
