Donadoni's current two-year contract expires after the championships in Austria and Switzerland and negotiations over an extension have now been put on hold until the tournament has finished.

The former AC Milan star says he has made no secret of his wish to continue, as long as the conditions are right.

"My aim is to continue to work with the national team, I have never hidden that ambition," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I would like to continue and I have nothing else on my mind."

Donadoni's world champions have been drawn alongside World Cup final rivals France, plus Holland and Romania in the group stage, and the Italy coach says this requires his full attention before turning his thoughts to the future.

"My full focus right now is on the upcoming European championship but I don't have a crystal ball to know what my future will be.

"I have the ambition to take forward this project and I hope there will be continuity from the work I began two years ago."
