Marrone underwent surgery today to repair torn knee cartilage, while Reid suffered a quad injury during Friday's win over Central Coast Mariners.

Reid, 30, has battled through an injury disrupted opening six games of the season with coach Aurelio Vidmar accepting the risk of further problems due to the Reds' substantial injury list.

"With Reidy, we always knew we were taking a risk with him, throwing him in a little bit early in round one because we knew he wasn't quite cherry ripe," Vidmar said.

"But we had to take that risk because we had no central midfielders, so unfortunately it has caught up with him again."

Marrone pulled up during Adelaide's recovery session following the 1-0 win over the Mariners, with his rehabilitation from surgery set to take four weeks.

"It's disappointing. There is nothing you can do about Michael Marrone, those things happen, so we'll just have to make do with what we've got," Vidmar said.

Vidmar, though, could have midfield trio Alemao, Fabian Barbiero and Kristian Sarkies available for Friday's meeting with defending A-League champions Melbourne Victory as the fifth-placed Reds chase back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Brazilian midfielder Alemao has been given the all clear although he still needs an operation to repair a fractured nose, while Barbiero and Sarkies have returned to full training after recovering from calf injuries.

Sarkies is yet to make an appearance this season, while Barbiero made a 13-minute cameo against Gold Coast.

"We'll see how Barbiero finishes off this week because it is only the second week he's trained with the group so he won't play this week," added Vidmar.

"And Sarkies, if he gets through this week he should have some game time with the youth team on Friday so that's a really positive sign for him."
