A 1-1 draw in the first leg on Wednesday means that Sunday's clash at the DSB Stadion is finely poised as both teams look to earn the right to face Ajax or Heerenveen.

After agonisingly missing out on the title on the last day of the season, it would an insult to injury if AZ also missed out on a Champions League place and Van Gaal is remaining positive.

"If the players stick to their tasks and perform the right way, the team will be OK," he said.

"To play well we have to bring something extra and we are in a good position going into the game."

Joey Didulica and Stijn Schaars are sidelined for AZ, while Gretar Steinsson should recover from a hamstring injury he picked up during the warm-up before the first leg.

FC Twente coach Fred Rutten admits his players were disappointed not to have beaten AZ on Wednesday, but he is hoping they can put things right and go through.

"The players were hugely disappointed after Wednesday's game, but that is also good because they believe they can win," said Rutten.

"The game is a real final for Twente and although it will be difficult, we still have a chance."

Patrick Gerritsen is back in training, but will miss out, while Niels Oude Kamphuis is also on the sidelines.

Rutten may also be without Ismail Aissati and Sharbel Touma, who are struggling with pelvis and ankle problems respectively.
