Goals from Ibrahim Afellay in the 83rd minute and a last minute clincher from Mike Zonneveld sealed victory in a match which saw both sides have ample chances to win it.

PSV had the better of the first half and Otman Bakkal had a shot well saved by Martin Pieckenhagen in the eighth minute.

Just moments later they came forward again, this time with Arouna Kone getting a cross in from the left which Eric Addo could only guide wide from 12 yards.

Heracles missed a golden opportunity in the 19th minute as Australian Eddy Bosnar broke through the PSV defence to get himself one on one with Heurelho Gomes but he put his shot wide.

The home side had another chance from a free-kick but that was easily saved and it was PSV who nearly took the lead before the break as Addo fed a ball to Afellay whose shot was parried away.

Bosnar had a chance to make up for his earlier miss in the second half as he hit a powerfully struck free-kick but Gomes was equal to it.

Heracles were more in the game in the second half and made the keeper work again as Igor Gluscevic received a smart pass from Karim Bridji.

They were made to pay for missed opportunities though as Afellay broke through the defence and hit a powerful shot from just inside the box to break home hearts.

The midfielder was also involved in the second as he provided the through ball for Zonneveld to latch onto and tuck away to put the result beyond doubt.
