PERTH Glory coach Alistair Edwards has branded Brazilian Sidnei Sciola Moraes an exciting forward who could become one of the A-League’s great entertainers.
An off-season signing for Glory after joining from Cyrpiot club Alki Larnarca, Sidnei impressed in Perth’s 3-1 opening round loss to Adelaide United.
The skilful winger played 73 minutes of the match, setting up Ryo Nagai’s goal and almost scoring one of his own.
Formerly with Portuguese clubs Boavista and Rio Ave, Sidnei scored two goals in the Glory’s pre-season matches.
“I know it’s a cliché but he adds a bit of flair to the team,” Edwards said. “He fits into our style of play very, very well. He’s one of our wingers, he can play as a number seven or a number 11, and he’s got great feet.
"I think he will be one of the guys who will entertain. Entertain the fans and that’s what it’s all about.”
The creative left-footed attacker signed a one-year deal with Perth after paying his own way to Australia to complete a week-long trial with the club.
Originally from Sao Paolo, Sidnei came through the ranks at Brazilian outfit Noroeste but has been playing in Europe since 2008.
Edwards added: “He’s a highly recommended player. He fits into our culture wonderfully - great person, onderful little family.
"His wife is due a baby very soon, so it will be a Brazilian Perth-born baby, that’ll be great.”
