Eriksen was unable to play in the initial ICC match against Serie A side Juventus in which they lost 2-1 on Tuesday after accumulating sickness when the squad arrived in Melbourne, however the Dane said he felt better and was confident he would play on Friday.

Approaching a new Premier League season, Eriksen was convinced little had to be changed after the North Londoners finished third on the table previously and took confidence out of the lack of changes that were made in the squad during this offseason.

“We need to bring what we did last season of course, we have essentially the same squad with two new players, so hopefully they’ll make us even stronger,” Eriksen said.

“We wish for even more for the spaces we want, it’s too early to say if we want the title. For us it’s really to see where we are, we also have the Champions League. The good thing about this season is it’s different from the past few years.”

Individually Eriksen had just played the most consistent and convincing season with Tottenham to date and acknowledged he was growing every year.

“Every season it’s been going up and hopefully it’ll be like that in my fourth season would be the same, getting the numbers,” he said.

“What really matters is where we ended up and we got the Champions League which was I wanted and what the team wanted, so it was a good season.”

Tottenham enter the upcoming Champions League campaign hosting their home games at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.

Midfielder Ryan Mason who looks a breath of fresh air for Spurs was looking to progress in the Champions League after a healthy 22 games in the EPL last season.

In their upcoming game against Atletico, Mason wasn’t ruling out the possibilities of meeting the Spaniards in the Champions League next season and was looking forward to running out on the MCG.

“Atletico aren’t that dissimilar to Juventus to be fair, they’re a fantastic team and the two games we had out here were probably against the top teams in Europe, they’re in the UCL and will go very far this season,” Mason said.

“It’s a great test for us, teams and individuals as well to see what level we’re at. I think Atletico will be a great match, very tactical and a fast match because their managers been fantastic to them, so I’m really looking forward to it.

Mason also spoke of the relationship he had with fellow coach Maurcio Pochettino and the approach the Argentinian has towards the team.

“His (Pochettino’s) philosophy, we have a style of play we stick to and whatever the score is, whatever the time in the game is, he’s brought belief and confidence throughout the team,” he said.

“I think some of the performances last season were fantastic, it was more on a consistent basis. The first season he came and we saw glimpses of what we were trying to do, last season was more consistent.”
