MELBOURNE Victory coach Ernie Merrick says his side paid the price for not taking their chances after losing 2-1 to Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday evening.
Brisbane dominated in the first-half and took a deserved lead through Mitch Nichols, but Merrick made changes and the Victory responded with an equaliser three minutes after the break through Robbie Kruse.
Melbourne then took control of the match and could have easily scored a winner, before the Roar stunned them with Jean Carlos Solorzano's strike which clinched the victory.
Merrick said he regretted his side's inability to take their opportunities when they were dominating.
"With that much domination in their half in the second-half of the game you've got to score goals or you pay a price, and we paid the price," he said.
"I can't keep saying we're playing good football because you've got to convert the good football into goals and wins."
Merrick added: "To their credit I thought the Roar played really good football and dominated central midfield in the first-half and deserved to be ahead.
"But we re-organised the midfield, brought on Leigh Broxham. At half-time we had a chat about it and in the second-half we scored really early and put ourselves in a position to win the game, we dominated play, had shot after shot.
"Then to concede a goal with their centre-back going right through the middle and then a bit of a lucky ricochet that was a bit of a heartbreaker.
"I thought it was a great second-half performance but we really lost the game in the first-half."
Victory's next match is at home to leaders Adelaide United on Friday evening.
